A New Favorite Cookbook

I have always been an avid book reader. Self development, leadership, management, coaching...you name it. My collection spans over 100 books. My cookbook collection was another story. Two years ago I owned ONE cookbook. Don't laugh because you probably have it too. The Better Homes & Garden Cookbook. You know the one...1930's red-plaid cover, limited edition seal, let's eat meat and potatoes every day cookbook. As timeless as these recipes are, it's just not the solution our family needs to be healthy. So in my search for healthy, creative foods for kids, I decided to build my cookbook collection with the same intensity as my business book collection. I'm up to 7- yea!!!

A few weeks ago I ordered a cookbook titled "The Kid Friendly ADHD & Autism Cookbook." I often times think I have ADHD (along with tourettes, a brain tumor and a number of other illnesses on any given day). In addition, my nephew is in the autism spectrum so I thought this book could help us both.

I was blown away! I actually found myself "reading" a cookbook from preface to index. I couldn't get enough of it. Can something as simple as the foods we eat really impact or improve our behavior? Can changing a child's diet really reverse the signs of autism? What's this craze about gluten and why is it so bad for us?

After reading the book I found myself in unusual aisles of the grocery store purchasing almond butter, coconut oil, coconut milk, and a host of other products I've never used before. Finding the right foods for your family isn't a one-size-fits-all approach but I can definitely see the value in using many of these recipes in our house. I picked up some new "substitution" tricks and am thrilled to be removing harmful products from our family recipes.
I highly recommend this book if you're serious about changing the way you eat and if you believe that your diet can positively impact behavior and health in kids.
